Not sure if / how to do what you want, but I believe that's called a hanging indent! Tables might suit your needs? You can use CSS snippets to make the grid invisible (or hardly noticeable). Tables can be a little funky with the auto width but you can also use a snippet to set a minimum width Standard HTML has a tag called Definition List that is more or less designed for this particular type of use cases. Some Markdown parsers support it. ```html

Markdown: A lightweight markup language with plain-text formatting syntax.
HTML: The standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser.

``` Which outputs: ``` Markdown A lightweight markup language with plain-text formatting syntax. HTML The standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. ``` I know it's not exactly what you wanted but you can use a custom CSS snippet to render the item definition inline after the colon. Unfortunately Markdown support for HTML definition list is pretty uneven, and Obsidian's Markdown parser doesn't support HTML definition lists. You can just use the raw
tag in Obsidian/Markdown but you'll have to use html encoding inside it, which can be a pain Since your formatting is very similar to yaml. I think your next best option is using a custom code block format: - put your definition list in a code block, and assign it with a custom code format (the word you add after the three backticks at the beginning of the code block) - create a custom code block renderer that parse the code block content as yaml, and then render it as html
inline with the
If all of this sounds too complicated (and it is TBH), just use Markdown tables. You'll have to complety change how you enter the text and the raw markdown is gonna look a bit ugly, but it's probably the most straightforward solution. [EDIT] I did a quick search and found an Obsidian plugin that add support. It uses a common Markdown syntax for it, which puts the colon in front of the the definition rather than the end of the defined term: ``` Term : Definition ``` The plugin renders it as html , which then you can use a custom CSS to make the appears inline with The plugin is @ https://community.obsidian.md/plugins/definition-list
